Free Grief Summit to Help Clients Make Meaning After Loss

Team

On April 2nd, we will host a free, virtual workshop exploring the science of loss and the strategies clinicians can use to get clients on a path toward healing. The six-hour workshop – led by Dr. Kate Truitt PhD MBA, seasoned applied neuroscientist and clinical psychologist – will equip therapists and social workers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to appropriately tailor clinical interventions to the unique needs of each client’s grief experience.

While the death of a loved one is a universal experience, recent has shown that despite these shared experiences of loss and grief, significant variations exist within particular cultures. If not appropriately supported through this challenging time, these variations can put certain communities at higher risk of Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD). The research further highlights how “diagnostic criteria for PGD are mostly based on Western grieving populations” with limited cultural adaptations available.

For clinicians and social workers, this makes developing the right, and nuanced, skills and practical strategies to best support clients who are experience grief even more important. The workshop led by Dr. Kate Truitt will explore traumatic grief but will also cover topics such as the neurological foundations of this grief that can often override healing.

Over the course of the six hours, attendees will be equipped so their clients can:
  • Harness neuroplasticity to foster resilience as they find meaning within and healing from the loss
  • Discover pathways to posttraumatic growth, building strength and purpose from their grief and reshaping their future with hope
  • Set boundaries that prioritize self-care and healthy coping skills during their grief journey
  • Cultivate a compassionate relationship with themselves, nurturing self-understanding and self-care as they process their grief

From unthinkable loss to unbreakable resilience...
Keep Breathing
In Keep Breathing, Dr. Kate Truitt, a renowned psychologist, applied neuroscientist, and trauma expert, shares her story of unimaginable loss, trauma, and ultimately, healing. Faced with the sudden-gut wrenching death of her fianće just one week before their wedding day, Kate found her world shattered, catapulting her into a deep void of profound grief, trauma, shock, and guilt.

Part memoir and part scientific exploration, Keep Breathing uses Kate’s own account as a case study to illuminate the common experiences in our human brain – deep love and devasting loss, exhilaration and pain, life and death – that have the power to both derail our lives and ignite us to rebuild, heal, and grow.
